Cosmé candles are wonderful additions to creating a cozy and calming atmosphere. Proper maintenance ensures that your candles burn evenly, safely, and last longer. Here’s a guide on how to maintain your candle effectively.
Follow instructions: Please read all instructions and warning labels before use of our candles. This ensures proper safety protocols are being followed and maximum benefits are enjoyed.
Trim the Wick: Before lighting your candle, always trim the wick to about 1/4 inch (6mm) in length. This prevents the flame from getting too large, which can lead to uneven burning, excessive soot, and potential hazards. Also, the longer your wicks are, the faster your candle will burn.
First Burn Matters: When you light a new candle, allow it to burn for at least 2 hours if it’s a smaller vessel, and 4 hours for larger vessels. The goal is to burn each candle long enough for the entire wax pool to be even. This prevents the formation of “tunnels” and ensures an even melt pool on subsequent burns. This step sets the tone for the candle’s overall lifespan.
Avoid Drafts: Place your candle on a flat surface away from drafts. Drafts can cause uneven burning and lead to a flickering flame that may deposit soot on the container or surface. If you notice your candle’s flame flickering excessively, it might be due to drafts. Adjust the candle’s position to a draft-free area, or consider using a candle holder that provides some protection from drafts.
Keep the Wax Pool Clean: To prevent debris or matches from falling into the melted wax pool, keep the area around the candle clean and remove any debris before lighting. This ensures a clean and safe burn.
Avoid Overburning: It’s recommended to burn candles for no more than 3-4 hours at a time to prevent overheating. Allowing the wax to re-solidify between burns helps maintain a consistent burn quality. If your candle is in a smaller jar, please burn for no more than 2 hours at a time.
Center the Wick: If the wick starts to drift off-center as the candle burns, gently nudge it back to the middle when the wax is still soft. This helps the candle burn evenly.
Trim the Wick: After your candle has been in use, trim cotton wicks before the next burn. This prevents the flame from getting too large, which can lead to uneven burning, excessive soot, and potential hazards.
Extinguish Properly: To extinguish the candle, use a snuffer or gently blow out the flame. This helps to prevent wax splattering and ensures minimal smoke and soot emission.
Store Properly: When not in use, store candles in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Heat can cause candles to warp or lose their fragrance. To prevent dust and debris buildup, keep the lid or dust cover on top of the candle when the candle is not in use. You can also keep your candle in the box your candle was mailed in.
Inspect Containers: Regularly check candle containers for any cracks or damage. A cracked container can lead to physical injury and wax leakage, which poses a fire hazard.
By following these tips, you can enjoy your Cosmé candles to their fullest potential while ensuring a safe and harmonious ambiance in your living space.
