Burning a quality handmade candle is a luxury we all love to indulge in. However, there are pros and cons to this experience. Handmade candles often contain various flaws that are not present in mechanized candles. These flaws can occur during the production or shipping stage. Some of these cosmetic imperfections include: wet spots/frosting, holes/cracks, uneven wicks, and essential oil residue. In this blog-post, we will discuss candle wet spots.
Candle wet spots (also known as candle frosting) are visible irregularities on the sides of a candle. The wax appears to have pulled away from the glass or container, leaving wet or bubble looking patches. These spots can affect the aesthetic quality of the candle, but have no effect on its burning or functionality. Wet spots can occur in any type of candle but occur more commonly in natural soy wax candles. This is because of the unique properties of soy wax.
Soy wax has a lower melting point compared to some other waxes, which can make it more susceptible to wet spots, and holes and cracks in the interior of the candle. Soy wax is also more sensitive to temperature changes. When it cools, it tends to contract and may pull away from the sides of the container. This contraction can result in the formation of visible depressions, wet spots, and frosting in and along the candle’s glass container.
Because Cosmé candles utilize natural waxes with a high soy wax content, they are susceptible to these imperfections. But rest assured that these cosmetic blemishes do not affect the quality of our candles. Instead, they demonstrate our commitment to providing you with candles made with high-quality ingredients!
